Hi folks,
Great podcast yet again! Thanks so much for speaking about my questions and comments on your podcast. One of the amazing things about this new podcasting revolution is that we are all able to discover just how much we have in common with people on the other side of the world.
Anyway, here's something that I'm sure Eric will take an interest in. During the week I had a conversation with someone I know who happens to be an orthodox jew. The issue of conversion to Judaism came up and the person proclaimed to me that people who converted would never be as Jewish as those who were born Jewish.
I couldn't believe it!! At first I thought that this person was just trying to be provocative because we have had several run ins in the past over my level of observance (or lack of it as this person perceives it). However as I probed them deeper it became clear that this was a firm belief of theres.
Personally I have the utmost respect for people who are Jewish by choice. Being Jewish, regardless of which 'denomination' of Judaism one follows is never easy and I admire those who come to find their faith within it.
Ok...I'll stop ranting now. It just made me sad to come face to face with the discrimination from within our own faith. Surely we get enough of it from outside the religion to go around!!
All the best,
Joel from Perth, Australia
